Google Wallet is still not available in India for all users on Play Store

Google is set to expand its Wallet app in India, firstly it was launched in 2022 in the US region, not for all countries but we can see a preview of the app that Google accidentally revealed on the Google Play store in India with screenshots. It means Google is working on Google Wallet for Indian users.

Somehow, people were confused about Google Pay but Google confirmed that it will continue to run Google Pay as a separate app in India for now according to Tech Crunch.

There is a difference between Google Wallet and Google Pay(G-Pay). Not to be confused, Google Pay is a different app that lets you pay via UPI (Unified Payments Interface). Google Pay in India is the largest market for payments after Walmart’s (PhonePe).

Google Pay will continue to offer its benefits in India to address the “unique requirements in India,” but it appears the company is making a way to bring its Wallet experience to Indian users.

As you can see in this screenshot above, The Google Wallet app is still unavailable to download on the Play Store in India. Still, it has been working for some Android Devices users in the country for a while, As spotted by the Indian news outlet Beebom.

Beebom, noticed that Google Wallet is working for Indian users when the app is downloaded either via sideloading or a direct link in the Play Store but not everyone can access it for now.

TechCrunch also spotted, that the Google Play Store listing for Google Wallet preview showed various high-profile brands in India, like SBI (State Bank of India), Air India, and PVR INOX. The brand images have since been removed from the listing, it seems that the app appears to be coming to India soon. Google Wallet might be different from that of the U.S. version because the company looking to provide local integration on the app.

Google Wallet allows users to add their debit cards, credit cards, loyalty cards, gift cards boarding passes, movie tickets and other things, users can make payments through their mobile devices. There is no need to carry physical debit or credit cards in your pocket because Google Wallet can store your card details and it allows you to make payments through NFC.

Users can send and receive money directly from the Google Wallet app with an Email and phone address. This made it easy to capture payments from friends or for products and services using your mobile phone. Users can make online payments on websites and apps that accept Google Wallet as a payment option. This eliminates the time checkout process by allowing users to pay without entering their card details each time.

It will only allow contactless payment from debit or credit cards, and will only work with devices with NFC (Near Field Communication) enabled in India. You also have the way to make NFC-based payments which are also coming with Android 15 later this year and more importantly, storing your documents aka DigiLocker on your mobile phone.

Note: Google Wallet is still unsearchable on the Google Play Store. However, you can download its latest APK to check if it runs for you because Google has not officially confirmed the visibility of Google Wallet in India.
