WhatsApp to release feature to bring profile pic in group chats

According to the report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has released a new update via the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the app’s version number up to 2.23.4.18. What’s changed in this version? WhatsApp is planning on adding a profile pic to group conversations in a future app update.

WhatsApp news source WABetaInfo revealed in October of last year that the Meta-owned service was working on a feature that will display profile icons within group conversations. The site is currently reporting, that the instant messaging service is still working on the function, and is currently in development.

This feature is already available in iMessage and Telegram, however, WhatsApp has never shown the user’s photo within a group conversation. With hundreds of users able to join a group, requiring them to display their profile photo would make it easy to determine who is communicating.

As shown in this screenshot, As seen by this screenshot, WhatsApp continues to work on the development of profile icons within group conversations. As a result, we can be certain that WhatsApp is still working on this feature and that it will be included in a future version. We believe it will be especially beneficial in situations where numerous contacts in a group chat have the same name or do not have a profile pic.

If a group member does not have a profile pic or if it is hidden due to their privacy settings, the default blank profile pic will always be displayed. In our opinion, it helps in distinguishing different group members and allows users to immediately recognise who is engaging in the group chat. This default picture is recognizable by its unique characteristics: it is always coloured with the same colour as the relevant contact name, and it also allows other individuals in the group chat to quickly follow the conversation and reply properly.
