According to reports, WhatsApp is working on Expiring Groups feature. This feature would let group admins specify a timer for their groups, after which the group will be terminated automatically. This might be beneficial for groups that only exist for a limited time, such as arranging events or short-term initiatives. However, it is unclear when this function will be made available to the public.

The function is still being tested on WhatsApp beta for iOS, but we noticed that it is also in development on the Android app due to the current WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.8.11 version available on the Google Play Store:

  1. Open the group conversation for which you wish to specify an expiration date.
  2. At the top of the conversation, tap the group name.
  3. Choose “Group Settings” from the menu.
  4. Select “Expiration.”
  5. Set the one you want expiration date for the group.
  6. Tap “OK”.

Once you’ve set up an expiration date for the group, a warning message will be sent to all group members a few days before the expiration date.
